Flamingo watching

Today we’re off to the park to see some wildlife! These beautiful pink flamingos show off their colour in the lagoons in Bages, Peyriac de Mer and La Palme. So, grab your phones, cameras or binoculars, and let's go get an eyeful!

ON THE ROAD

Between Bages and Peyriac de Mer

Full of motivation and armed with my camera, I set off in the car towards the village of Bages early in the morning. Crossing through the village I aim for Peyriac de Mer.
On the pretty road that separates the banks of salt marshes, along the lagoon, wild and authentic, I see the magnificent pink birds. I park on the roadside to watch them. I may even see some in flight if I'm lucky. How magnificent!
I continue my journey to Peyriac de Mer. Walking across the wooden footbridges, I see more flamingos. And then the Doul lagoon! What glorious landscapes rich in fauna and flora!

Parking

Pratice

A new sign has been installed in rue Chemin-neuf, at the entrance in Peyriac de Mer. The car parks in the village are for residents of Peyriac only (for vehicles with stickers), under penalty of a €35 fine. So take the bypass and park in the Horte and La Roque car parks, on the Bages road.
For our friends with camper vans, there’s an area available on the road to Bages. Remember, parking in natural areas is prohibited.

ON THE WATER

On the La Palme lagoon

They are so majestic that I can't get enough of them, but it’s time to move on to the village of  La Palme and its lagoon. It is a beautiful place where you can see a great variety of birds, including our pink flamingos, in complete freedom. It is accessible on foot.

The old salt flats are very close to the lagoon, with colours that change with the seasons and the salt content of the water. I’ll be back to see them again soon!

Ideal season

It is easier to see these Phoenicopterus roseus during the winter but you can spot them all year round. It is also more pleasant when it is a little windy.
They love the shallow brackish waters of our lagoons.

Shhh!

And above all, do as animal photographers and naturalists do:
